The seminar was billed as Instinctive Knife Defense. Photo: Self-Defense Manila The event was well attended by members of the Philippine Coast Guard and Fist Gym community. Maestro Bong taught basic principles of engagement and demonstrated several techniques against knife attacks. The techniques were void of the acrobatic moves usually seen on movies and were based on practical and functional movements. Lo Shen Pho March 23, 2018 Ring rust, injuries and not-so-young age… these were the factors that the MMA community predicted would work against the comeback fight of Fist Gym’s Richard “The Cannibal” Redman. They were all wrong. On March 23, 2018 at URCC 5 BETS, Redman defied the odds as it only took him less than 5 minutes to dispose of his younger and bigger opponent, Brian Paule. Sticking with his game plan of closing the distance immediately, Redman wasted no time in securing the clinch and takedown. Ending on a top half-guard position, he relentlessly pounced on Paule and eventually secured a rear-naked choke in the first round. After his hand was raised by the referee, Redman, in tears of joy, yelled at the crowd, “You thought I was done. You all bet on the wrong guy!”. During his post-fight interview, he thanked his Fist Gym training camp for believing in him and for coming up with the game plan. He has set his sights at the 170-lb division and is all but ready to claim the URCC welterweight belt.
Lo Shen Pho February 16, 2018 Hard training paid off for Fist Gym MMA fighters Jovan Espinosa and Sheraz Qureshi as both pulled off a dominating win at Battle Royale 7 held in UP Los Baños, Laguna on February 16, 2018. The event was organized by U.P Beta Sigma Fraternity Los Baños. Espinosa had a tough opponent at their 115-lb match but managed to convince all three judges win a unanimous decision victory against Alejo Corpuz of Yawyan. Round 1 had Corpuz for striking superiority and for good takedown defense against Espinosa. Round 2 saw Espinosa adjusting his combinations and was landing with pinpoint accuracy. It was Espinosa’s takedown and ground-and-pound that spelled the difference. Sheraz Qureshi’s 135-lb bout had a different story. The overhand right of his opponent, John Almazan of BOSS MMA, was on the spot as it kept landing and kept the long-limbed Qureshi at bay during the Round ONE MMA. At the start of the 2nd round, Qureshi was able to find his timing and started landing one-two combinations. At this point, Almazan’s overhand right hand was rendered ineffective after Qureshi was able to slip past the right angle. A clean takedown [Read More]
